This vintage Mandolin-Banjo was a graduation gift to me last May. I would love to keep this thing around, but I am having to sell some possessions to help with my living expenses until I get a decent job lined out. The only information on it is what is on the label on the underside of the Mandolin-Banjo, which can be seen here:
I am a musician and have a few years of experience with string instruments. If you plan on playing this vintage instrument, you would probably need to get the tuning machines replaced. Otherwise, it won't hold a tune. The strings also would need to be replaced, as I have not done that since I've had it, and they appear to be rather old and dull.
The string height, or action, is very good on it.
From what I have read, Beltone produced mandolin-banjos around the 1920s-1940s. Mandolin-banjos were first produced in the late 19th century--a hybrid of a mandolin and banjo. One key characteristic gained by mixing the two instruments is it allows a mandolin to have the volume of a banjo. The instrument was popularized in the 1920s when musicians started amplifying instruments in order to play louder.
This type of instrument is not commonly played anymore and has become very rare.
I have measured this instrument all-around, and the measurements are as follows:
Approx. Weight: 4.8 lbs
Total Length: 24'Widest Point: 11'
Width: 1 ⅝' (at body) down to 1 ⅛' (at headstock)
Length: 6 ¼'%
