I purchased this Bart Reiter Special model open-back banjo used about two years ago. I'm not sure exactly what year it was built, but Bart could probably tell you from the serial number which is 2306. I have it set up slightly different than the set up Bart ships them with. Specifically, I put on a Renaissance head, no-knot tail piece and a moon bridge. I also sent it back to Bart a year or so ago to have him scoop the fret board above the seventeenth fret. He adjusted the neck angle slightly to lower the action a bit while he had it. I had my local luthier install spikes at the 7th, 9th and 10th frets. Other than that it's all original. I think these changes make for a better sounding and more playable old-time banjo, but if you prefer the original set up, I'd be happy to include the original tailpiece and fiberskyn head. I also have a real skin head I'll include if you're interested.

The condition is very good, but it's not brand new. There is some finish checking on the back of the neck, there are a few minor scuffs on the back of the pot, the original owner cut off a couple of the bracket nuts (not sure why), and there's a mark on the side of the pot that goes through the finish where the original owner attached a strap. I tried to show all of this in the pictures, but some of it is pretty hard to see, especially the finish checking on the neck. Overall it's in very nice condition, with typical wear and tear for a banjo that's been played for a few years.

I think Bart makes a fine sounding banjo, and this one is a great example. He's also known for his flawless workmanship and attent
