What we are offering today is an original Gibson banjo or ukulele from the mid 1920’s. I believe according to my research it is made of maple wood and a rosewood neck. Considering its age it is in relatively good condition. Here are the details:
I can’t figure out if it is model UB2 or UB3. I believe it to be style –0. It is not the smaller 6 inch rim (diameter) it is actually the 8 inch variety. I don’t know all the terms so I will try to explain how I measured. If you measure from the bottom of the neck (last fret before circle) all the way to the tippy top of the head it measures 13 and ¼''. From top to tip of head it measures about 21 ½ inches. It clearly has the Gibson trademark on the top of the head. It has all of its frets, the wood piece that holds the strings (close to the head), I think its called a Nut, is there, but it needs to be glued back on. It has what appear to be the original banjo tuners or pegs, please see picture. They look like the color of ivory, but absolutely NO idea if they are. In addition, it has 3 dot inlays on the neck, look pearlized.
I do not know if the strings are original, but appear to be quite old. There are 3 out of the original 4 strings, and 1 is not attached at the bottom. The cowhide or fabric used in the circle of the instrument is stained, I did NOT try and clean it, again it appears to be the original and not replaced. I think it may have had a bridge but I do not have it. I’ve seen them on ebay for a couple of bucks, so that
