I'm told this is a four string 1927 ORPHEUM Banjo. Please review all 12 photos carefully. She has 22 brass frets and is 37 inches overall. The two tags inside body say: ''Bruno and Sons Inc, NY'' and ''Made by W.M. L. Lange, NY''. Tuning keys appear to be MOP and are stamped in the chrome ''Star Planet Five''. Laying a carpenters straight edge across the neck, all the brass frets touch it -- appears to be very straight. The neck seems to be well attached to the body. Her serial number is stamped in the wood of body and reads: ''Patent Pending 724833''. All the inlays on the neck are good and appear to be MOP. There are a few condition issues: There is a six inch long piece of the thin Ebony (black) wood inlay strip across the top edge nearest the body that is missing/broken off (see last photo). In this same area however are several tiny ivory dots/studs and they are still in place. I believe that a conservator could easily repair this, thereby considerably increasing it's overall value . There is some minor chipping around one of the tuning keys in the head. Again, please review the photos carefully.

The case is in fair condition. The gold-ish velvet lining has come lose in some places. The handle needs to be replaced/restored. I do not play the banjo and know very little else about this instrument. I bought her many years ago it because it is a work of aesthetic art and beautiful to look at. It has always been indoors in a heated environment. I have that found collectors are very particular about the slightest of details. Rightfully so. But I cannot guara
