This is truly a ''found under the bed'' vintage banjo; it has not seen daylight since sometime in the 1960's.  I inherited it from my mother-in-law, and barely know how to play the radio, let alone a banjo.  I can tell you that a guitar player I know said the neck is ''dead nuts straight'', that some of the binding along the far side of the neck needs to be glued down, that it needs new strings (duh...), and that he thinks the skin or drum is original animal skin (not the replacement plastic skin you usually see).  The ''head ring'' is 11 1/8 inches in diameter. There is a tag in the back that says ''Rettburg & Lange'', and the serial number 11888 is pressed into the bar that goes across the back.  I looked at other listings for the same banjo, and did some Google research, but frankly, the pictures tell the story.  It's an excellent condition instrument from the early 1900's; anyone will be proud to own this collectible banjo.  The reserve price is set to be fair to myself and the buyer. On Sep-28-08 at 09:34:30 PDT, seller added the following information:

Current bid is VERY CLOSE to the reserve price !  Put in your proxy bid now, and don't lose this one over a few dollars.  I hate it when I lose an auction and THEN say ''I wish I had gone a little higher''.  You'll forget what you paid soon enough; you'll enjoy the banjo forever.  GOOD LUCK !
