Prewar Kerschner Unique Tailpiece for Vega, Gibson Banjo


Up for auction is this authentic prewar Kerschner banjo tailpiece.  These tailpieces were used on high quality tenor banjos of the Great Depression.  The following is stamped on the top of the tailpiece:   Kerschner Unique; Lyon & Healy; Makers; Chicago, U.S.A.   On the back of the tailpiece, it reads, “PAT. 12-20-14; 5-9-16.”  There is no indication of any brass showing from wear, and it should look pretty nice on any quality vintage banjo.


This tailpiece sports the typical prewar patina and the usual dings and bruises that come with 70 years of use, but overall I would rate the condition of this tailpiece as “Excellent.”  It comes as shown with the hanger bolt and two adjusting screws.
