Price : US $1,000.
For sale is a 1926 Vega Tubaphone 5 string conversion with a new Wyatt Fawley neck. The pot is 10 and 15/16 inches across and the scale length is 26 inches. It is fitted with 5-star planetary tuners in the peg head and a 5-star right angle tuner for the 5th string. The original dowel stick is mounted in the neck and it is marked ''Vegaphone'' (which is how Vega labelled their 19 fret tu-ba-phone tenors) and ''Professional''. It also includes the standard ''Made by the Vega Company Boston, Mass.'' as well as the patent stamp. The serial number is 68548 and is stamped on both the dowel stick and the rim. This conversion has a beautiful mahogany neck made by Wyatt Fawley (luthier to the gods), which was mounted and french polished (as were the original necks) by John Dura. It has that wonderful sparkling tubaphone sound with a medium action using a 3/4 inch bridge. A low action could be obtained by substituting a 5/8'' bridge. A half inch bridge would be too low. All the hardware on the pot is original with the exception of a repro. No Knot tailpiece, and is in fairly nice condition considering its age.
Credit card payments through paypal are accepted. Shipping and handling is estimated at $65, including insurance, via UPS, to the continental US. Hawaii and Alaska will probably be higher. Overseas shipping is available at cost - which might be expensive since this instrument is too big to be shipped via the post of
