Price : US $490.00
Up for auction is an all-original 1983 Gibson Epiphone Masterbuilt MB 250 banjo in excellent condition. This banjo was made in Japan before the move by Gibson to Korea and is considered by many to be of higher quality than the later models. It features a solid mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard and genuine pearl inlays in a ''Hearts and Flowers'' type of pattern with a mother of pearl block at the 22nd fret that is engraved ''MASTERBUILT''. The traditional fiddle-shaped headstock is inlayed in pearl with ''Epiphone by Gibson'' and the traditional Gibson ''Hearts and Flowers'' pattern.. The later models do not say ''Gibson''. The resonator is also mahogany with two concentric purfling rings and is bound in ivoroid on the top and bottom edges. The full-thickness rim is multi-ply maple and features a nice heavy tone ring for superior sound, and dual coordinator rods. This banjo has been lovingly cared for and is in excellent condition. The action is very nice and the banjo has alot of volume and a tone that has taken me through many gigs and jams. The planetary-style tuners work very well. There are no issues with this banjo. Comes with a new 5-star head, the original adjustment wrench, and beat-up old case that is coming apart at the ends, but will serve to protect the instrument for shipping. There are no serial numbers that I can find, but the back of the headstock is stamped with a 3-digit number but I can't make it out (see photo). Don't miss out on this nicely made instrument! Please email with any questions.
