On offer is a Vega Tubaphone (Style M) short scale tenor banjo. This is a much sought after banjo, particularily for Irish Traditional music. It was made in 1922, according to the serial number: 49329 which is stamped on both the rim and the dowel stick. The banjo has a 20 & 1/2'' scale length and an extended fretboard. (The neck joins the pot at the 16th fret with 20 frets in total). It also features an oversized rim. (11 & 13/16'' measured across the tension hoop, 11 & 1/2'' measured across the skin) This gives the banjo a lovely bass response and the famous Tubaphone tone ring gives plenty of volume and great tone. This example is in really nice condition with only minimal signs of use. The only non original part is the tailpiece, which has been changed to a Waverley type.
I'm including an interesting old case with the banjo, which is of the correct period but not original to the banjo. Of note is the ''Hawkes & Son'' dealer's plate attached to the inside storage pocket. The case is in pretty rough condition but could be made servicable with some work. I'm including it mainly to provide protection for the banjo during shipping.
I also have a spare Fibreskyn head for the banjo, which I'll include along with it. ( ... it's currently fitted with a Remo Frosted Top head.)
I've uploaded a short clip of the banjo on Youtube. ( ... now updated to a better quality clip!) Hopefully it wil
