Here's some info about legendary banjo maker Bob Rock
Bob Rock, from Snake Spring, PA, made about 800 banjos in his day, and only about 30 or so are tenors. Moreover, only a handful of Bob's banjos are Indian Chief models. It wouldn't surprise me if this were the only Rock Indian Chief tenor in existence.
The peghead and resonator are wonderfully hand painted. The mother of pearl fingerboard inlays are beautifully iridescent, and the photos do not do them justice.
This banjo is in excellent condition, and has less than an hour of play on it. It is also extremely loud. I began playing banjo in 1973, and have played many hundreds of banjos since then, and this banjo is, by far, the loudest one I have ever played. It is also the heaviest I have ever seen. It must weigh over 20 lbs.
Bob Rock passed away in 2003. He died before he completed this tenor, and banjo maker Cork Wirick completed it for us. The neck and resonator were completed by Bob, and some of the parts (5-Star planetary tuners, 5-Star head) came from Bob's shop. (I purchased th
