Bacon Symphonie Silver Bell Plectrum Banjo

Price : US $711.00
This is a Bacon Symphonie Silver Bell Plectrum Archtop Banjo with a Resonator, most likely from the Gretsch era.
I purchased this from a pawn shop in Baltimore in 1980. It has only been played a few times since then.
Serial number 25003. Exact dating of Gretsch era banjos is difficult at best; this could date anywhere from the 1940's to the mid 1960's. http://www.mugwumps.com/BaconSerialNumbers.html
Very elaborately decorated, beautiful instrument, with rhinestone inlays in the headstock (a few missing). There is a slight separation between the nut and the fretboard (see photos). Some surface cracks in the finish, a few minor nicks, chips and dings in the trim. This banjo is really nice to simply look at and it sounds great.
SS Stewart Bridge. Gretsch Tailpiece.
Hardshell Terrapin Banjo Case (purchased new in 2002) included.
The original case is too shallow to close properly with the resonator attached, so I can only conclude that the resonator was added later or the banjo was meant to be stored with the resonator detached. The original case, which is in poor condition, can be included for an additional $15 for the shipping (photos of case available on request). If the winning bidder does not want the case, it will be auctioned later.
