This is a 1962 Vega Wonder 5 string resonator banjo that is in very good condition due to the fact that it sat in a closet for over thirty years. Vega did not make many 5 string Wonder banjos. After I bought it from the second owner I gave it a good cleaning and installed a new Remo Wheather King head. It cleaned up very nice as you can see. It has dual coordinator rods, an adjustaqble neck and the Vega odd-ball ''two allen screw'' system inside the wood rim also for neck adjustment. The original Vega serial number label shows it is a low 5-digit serial number from the infamous ''printers error label'' period of Vega production. The label reads: NO. A-10357 Model Wonder 5 stg (for 5 string). Currently, Deering Banjo Company is offering their versioin of this 1960's Vega banjo and they call it the Deering Senator Bluegrass model. But this new Deering model has only one coordinator rod while this original Vega has two coordinator rods. When I bought this banjo I didn't really know much about it or its history. Friends have since educated on it and it seems to be a unique rare model that belongs more to a Vega collector then to me and my style of banjo playing.
Someone instralled railroad spikes on the 7, 9 and 10th frets. Looks like there was one at the 8th fret and was removed. Fretboard is real nice and so are the inlays... very little fret wear. The normal small little scrapes, nicks and dings for a 49 year old banjo, but nothing major as the pictures show. If your looking to add an original early 1
