This is a beautiful Deering Custom Calico banjo with a highly figured blonde maple neck, rim, and resonator in excellent condition! The serial number is 4374. The original owner's initials (DRH) are inlaid on the bottom of the fretboard (see photos). This banjo is loud, and has a powerful deep projecting tone. This is a very heavy precision instrument and a true joy to play. The action is amazingly low, but you can play it hard without buzz if you want. This banjo has not been played much, the fret wear is very minimal. The photos don't do this banjo justice. I took the pictures at dusk with a flash. I couldn't capture the real beauty of the wood. Please email me with any questions. You will be very pleased with this banjo. Thanks for looking! On Jan-22-11 at 08:26:25 PST, seller added the following information:
Serial #4374  According to Deering this banjo was completed in the second half of 1995.

Also, Deering does not make the honey blonde model any more except for special orders and a substantial price increase. The reason is that the light color shows any little imperfection, and unblemished wood is becoming harder to come by. Wood for the lighter colored finish has to be specially selected and they have to go through a lot of wood to find a grade worthy of the lighter color. That is why they use a darker stain on the recent Calico models.
