Vegavox III 1967 Gold Plated 19 Fret Boston Tenor Banjo
This banjo is no longer for sale (sold on 2011-06-19)
Price : US $1,625.
Vegavox III from 1967 with gold plated hardware, tubaphone tone ring with narrow slits, sunburst 2-piece maple neck with black center stripe, double white-bound Vox style deep resonator with multi-colored designs on side, multi-ply 5/8'' wood rim, white-bound 19 fret ebony fingerboard with engraved pearl inlays, double coordinator rods, peghead overlay with engraved and painted multicolor ''Vega'' logo, star and other designs, tailpiece screws into side of tension hoop, tuners with white plastic buttons. This instrument sold for $850 when new in 1967. Adjusting for inflation, that would be over $5400 today. The gold plating is in great shape with the occasional scratch. Everything is shipshape with the exception of one resonator bolt (thumbscrew) that is a replacement and would match perfectly if it was replated. This is a fabulous sounding, easy playing, fine quality instrument for the professional musician. It has been carefully used and shows only slight signs of wear. Eight mother-of-pearl inlays with engraved designs. The deep resonator is curly maple with marquetry inlay on sides. The Vegavox III and IV were custom built on special order only, so it is likely that the engraving and coloring are unique. The neck is straight and true. Made in Boston!
With a battered case, useful for shipping, only.
