Beautiful, Unique and Rare 1920's 5-String Hughes Banjo.  This is a beautiful Banjo.  The pictures don't do it justice.  All hardware appears to be original.  All brackets are correct.  Three adjustments on the tail piece (Kerschner - Unique, Lyon and Healy, Makers, Chicago, USA).  Patented 5-01.

This banjo is extremely fancy, and has more inlay than the Vega Whyte Ladie #9. The name Hughes is inlaid on the peg head.  The sound is remarkable.

This is a 1920's Hughes 5-string banjo in very good condition.  There is some wear on the frets but this banjo out plays and out sounds all other pre-war banjos.  It was appraised by John Bernunzio of Bernunzio Vintage Instruments, Rochester, NY.  Phone 1-716-473-6140.  This is a very high grade custom instrument made to rival the best instruments of the era.  The banjo neck has fancy engraved pearl inlays in the fingerboard and peghead and a carving on the heel.  The metal rim is nickel plated and highly engraved with a floral pattern.  The long Kerschner tailpiece is also engraved.  The rim cap and dowel stick are covered with choice abalone.  This banjo was appraised on April 19, 2004 of a market value of $4500.00.  The appraisal letter will be sent with banjo.

The alligator hard-shell case appears to be original, and in pretty good shape.  I am selling all my banjos.  I will not accept any returns, and there is no guarantee.  I took a lot of
