A Black Walnut Fretless Mountain 5 String  Banjo, Frank Proffitt style
Like New condition.
This is banjo number 356, built in early spring 2010 by  Richard K. Smith of Comer, Georgia.
Richard
makes excellent “good old fashioned homemade” mountain banjos similar
to those built by Frank Proffitt,  the Hicks and Glenn families &
others.
The workmanship on this banjo is top notch.
Specs are:
The neck, pot, tailpiece and handmade pegs are all constructed from beautiful black walnut.
The nut is bone, the bridge is handmade, the calfskin head is 6 inches and stretched over a metal rim.
There are slotted brass screws holding it all together.
It has Nylgut strings which give it a nice plunky sound.
I will include a set of new D'addario Light Gauge Ball End Steel Strings that you could use instead of the nylgut strings.
The scale length is 26 ¼ inches.
The pot is 10 inches.
Total length of this banjo is 36 inches.
There
is two-and-a-half degree angle between the neck and head to solve some
problems that can occur with a perfectly flat old-time banjo according
to the builder.
I will ship to the lower 48 states only
..
